Why I’m Stepping BACK into Scribbly Gum

A few years ago, I made the bittersweet decision to sell Scribbly Gum, the business I poured so much love into building. At the time, it was the right choice- I’d just started a new job, moved to a new city and the business had grown into something much bigger than I ever imagined. I explained my reasons for selling in this post, and while I’ve never regretted the decision, I’ve always carried a special fondness for Scribbly Gum in my heart.

Since then, Dee has done an incredible job of nurturing Scribbly Gum, keeping its spirit alive and ensuring it remained a much-loved source of fabric and inspiration. I’m so grateful for the way she has cared for the business and community- it’s made stepping back in alongside her feel natural and exciting.

What I missed most was the joy of curating fabrics and putting together bundles that inspired creativity. Over time, I realised that those simple, hands-on parts of the business- the colour play, the textures, the thrill of creating kits that make quilting accessible were the parts I loved the most.

When the opportunity arose to rejoin Scribbly Gum with Dee, it felt like the timing was just right. The business now has a renewed focus on going back to basics: kits and bundles. This streamlined approach makes it simpler to run and aligns perfectly with my own creative energy. Instead of being weighed down by the complexities of a large operation, I can focus on what excites me most: helping quilters find joy and confidence in their projects.

One of the first steps in this new chapter is launching quilt kits for my brand-new pattern, Trip Around the World. These kits bring everything together,  an approachable, beginner-friendly design paired with beautifully curated fabrics that make the sewing process fun and stress-free.

For me, stepping back into Scribbly Gum with Dee is about more than just business. It’s about reconnecting with a community I love, continuing the care and passion Dee has poured into it, and sharing the joy of quilting in the most accessible way possible. I’m so excited to be back, and I can’t wait to see the quilts you’ll make with us!
