How to make: A Quilted Apron

Quilt coats, quilt bags, quilt oven mitts- why not quilted aprons? This is such a fun and quick project to make !

Scroll down for some inspiration impages and details on the aprons but if you’d like to get straight into making, you can find a free PDF download of the instructions here. You will also need to download a template document which you can find here.

A quick note on the instructions: these assume basic quilting knowledge (eg binding) but if you are a beginner quilter, you can check out all the steps which you can find in my Quilting 101 series.

And a secondary note on the instructions - I wrote these about four years ago and I like to think that both my instruction writing and photo taking has gotten a little better (I also took these photos at night which didn’t help), so please don’t view this as my typical quality of instructions- I will eventually rewrite them but so many ideas and so little time :-)

For this apron, I used the quilt-as-you-go (QAYG) method. I first saw this on @sotakhandmade's instagram and if you are looking for some inspiration and great videos on how to use the QAYG method, be sure to check her out! Effectively, I pieced and and quilted as I went- so once i'd finished piecing, i'd also finished making my quilt sandwich and quilting - so all I needed to do was cut out the apron shape and add binding.

I love the detail and texture! :-)

So if you're looking for a quick a fun project, give this a try :-) Let me know if you have any questions!
