What is Joz making- November

I’m back to talk about what’s on my sewing table (and in my ears) this month- I love writing these little posts as they do help me stay accountable :-)

What I’ve finished since my last update!

I thought I had finished a lot this month but maybe not as much as I originally thought :-)

First up, I finished hand quilting my sawtooth star cushion and this now has pride of place in our litle nook under the stairs

New quilts (and quilted items) I’ve started:

Recap from last month (I actually did it! :-) :

“What quilts I’m thinking about/ planning

I’m thinking I would love to make a double Irish Chain quilt using a dark navy linen I have in my stash :-)

I also want to make my sister a quilted floor mat- I think I know what I’m going to do but watch this space!”

I did make my sister a double Irish Chain play mat- she wanted it nice and squishy and round so I used 4 layers of batting and I’m quite happy with how it turned out!

And I did make another double Irish Chain quilt in blue and cream. I’ve also written a pattern if you want to make one yourself- it’s such a fun pattern that comes together before your eyes :-) I’ve only done the quilt top as I still need to find backing fabric but I think I’m going to hand quilt this one.

What quilts I’m thinking about/ planning

My mum has requested a new floor cushion cover for her dog, Dennis as he’s worn through the other one- I’ve got a design all planned out with some lines- watch this space.

What I need to quilt

I’m half way through quilting my St Louis 16 patch using large zig zag stitch- hopefully I can finish this one soon! If you want to make this pattern, I’ve just published a pattern which you can find here.

And same update as last month- I’ve made zero progress on my Ramona quilt since last time- need to get onto that one too :-)

What I’m hand quilting

(Same update as last month)- I’ve also only made a few lines of progress on my Ramona quilt- i’m almost there though so just need to stick it out :-)

But I did finish and finally baste my second Sawtooth Star quilt- and I’ve nearly finished hand quilting it! I think I might list this one for sale :-)

What I’m listening to

Recent books I’ve listened to:

You before me by Jojo Moyes- 4.5/5 I’m about ten years behind the trends on this one but I’ve finally read (listened) to this one and absolutely loved it! (I haven’t seen the movie). I’ve now started the second book in this series (After You) and am less enamoured… watch this space.

Someone else’s shoes by Jojo Moyes- 5/5 This book was the reason I started You before Me- this was my first Jojo Moyes book and I really really enjoyed it- nice light reading, lots of witty dialogue - highly recommended !

Tell No One by Harlan Coben- 4/5 I find I either like or dislike Harlan Coben’s books but this one fell firmly in the enjoy category.

Love at First Flight by Tess Woods- 4/5 This one was pure trash but that didn’t stop me really enjoying this one. Plus it’s set between Perth and Melbourne so lots of familiar places.

Recent books I’ve read :
I’ve included a list of some books I’ve read (as opposed to listened to)- I can’t vouch for the audiobook version which as you know can be good or bad but I did enjoy these books!

Bring me Back by BA Paris- 2/5 Turns out I’ve actually read this book before, ages ago but I couldn’t remember what happened. It was enjoyable enough but the twist was STUPID hence the very low rating

The Last Thing he Told me by Laura Dave- 3/5 - decent and it kept me hooked the whole way through as I wanted to find out what happened.

Before We Were Strangers by Renee Carlino - 4/5 A really easy read - I don’t think it will win any literary awards but I found it really enjoyable

The Midnight Library- 4/5 I really liked this one and it had some great little lessons wound into it.
